It’s been quite a strange week for me

Well it’s been quite a strange week for me. After reporting to GB training camp in Norfolk on Sunday, I found myself retracing my steps back to London for the official “Team 2012 Launch”. Unfortunately just minutes from the hotel I managed to crash my car; not the ideal preparation for the launch! Luckily it wasn’t too serious and a couple of hours (and a short Cab ride) later I finally arrived at my destination.
The launch itself was a great success. After the main photo-call, myself and the other athletes gave media interviews and enjoyed the uncharacteristic autumn sunshine with the superb backdrop of the Olympic stadium. It was very exciting to get onto the Olympic site and seeing the stadium up close brought back great memories of the opening ceremony in Beijing. Remembering the anticipation as we waited to go inside and the noise as we entered through the tunnel made me wonder how amazing it will be in three years time when we get to do it as hosts!

At this point I was due to return to Norfolk but with the car un-driveable I was forced to take a cab home and begin the boring business of informing my insurance company of the accident and so on! It was a bit of a blow as this was to be our last opportunity to work together as a Squad before travelling to Denmark to defend our crown at the European Championships. We’re due to leave on the 12th and will be aiming for an unprecedented fourth consecutive title!
Next week I’ll be letting you know how my final week’s training went ahead our biggest tournament of the year…..
