Busy Doing Nothing!

It’s been very hectic for me since I last posted two weeks ago. After leaving San Diego, I took a holiday in Las Vegas which is always a great place to let your hair down but not necessarily relax. Roughly half of our touring team spent a week taking in the sights, seeing some spectacular shows and going to bed far too late!
Upon my return, I was straight back to work with a trip down to Gravesend to judge entries in the “1000 Rings” art competition. This was devised by the Gravesham borough council to mark 1000 days until the Paralympic Games in London. The entries were by young people in the borough aged between five and nineteen and were of an extremely high standard. (I was about to list the winners until I realised that the prize giving ceremony isn’t until 3rd December but I’ll be sure to name-check them in my next entry!)
I managed to get a little bit of training in on Friday and spent the weekend getting over my jet lag and tying up loose ends before travelling to Loughborough University yesterday for “testing’ with the GB Squad. This is basically something we have to do a few times a year to gauge our fitness and check we’ve been doing the necessary work to keep ourselves at an elite level. The test’s are all pretty standard and without going into too much detail, they measure your speed and agility in your Rugby Chair. There are also “repeat sprint” and “shuttle run” tests to check stamina. It’s a long day with quite a lot of waiting around but the coaches and management need to collect this data for future reference and to make sure our Strength and Conditioning support is being delivered correctly.
After rushing home from Loughborough last night, I had what was left of the evening with my girlfriend before falling into bed a pretty tired boy! The reason I’m rushing this Blog (and have indeed been rushing since getting home from the U.S.) is that I’ve been packing and running around all day because I’m flying to Dubai in a few hours to watch the Rugby 7’s this weekend. It’s an amazing event and I’m very lucky to be able to get out there and see it. I’ll be back next week and will hopefully let you know all about it then…
